2023 Korea-ful Night

House of Korea is happy to unwrap and reveal 2023’s Korea-Ful Night: Present.

Through this event, House of Korea announces that we are “present”. The event commemorates the past–the historical significance of 70 years of alliance between the United States and the Republic of Korea, and the 120 years of Korean immigration to the United States–but also celebrates the “present”. And as we “present” the night, the hope is that we also lay a foundation for the future.

Featuring speakers like the award winning, lawyer-turned-documentary filmmaker Mr. Joseph Juhn and Associate Professor of Dance at SDSU Dr. Chuyun Oh, and performances by UCSD KOTX, SD Korean Folk Dance Association, and San Diego Catholic Singers.

  • 4:30pm – Registration Begins / Cultural Experience Booths
  • 6:00pm – Buffet opens
  • 6:30pm – Introductory speakers
    • Jung Joo Hwang, HOK President
    • Peter Comiskey, Executive Director for the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership
    • Youngwan Kim, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles

발보아공원에 한국관 건축 완공 후, 한국 문화를 사랑하는 사람들이 모여, 한국이민사의 이야기를 공유하고, 한국 음식을 나누면서, 한국 문화를 감상하며, 한국관 건물 유지 및 한국의 집에서의 연중 행사를 위한 모금마련 행사로 자리를 마련하였습니다. 2023 Korea-Ful Night: Present 행사에 저희와 함께 해 주세요!

Junior Young Ambassador 2023-2024

Junior Young Ambassador의 주된 활동은 cottage hosting을 통해 토요일과 일요일에 오픈하는 House of Korea를 찾아온 방문객들에게 한국의 문화, 역사, 언어 등을 소개하고 한국을 홍보하는 것입니다. 

그 외에 House of Korea에서 주최하는 다양한 행사 (Lawn Program Day, 독도 골든벨 퀴즈대회, Korea Day, International Christmas Festival, K-Pop Dance & Vocal Workshop, 작가와 함께 하는 북사인회 등) 에 참여하여 한국을 배우며 알리는 청소년 한국대사의 역할을 하게 됩니다.

HoK YA Newsletter Issues #1

The HoK YA is a group of high school students within the HoK. 33 dedicated members of the YA are committed to promoting Korean culture and history by hosting the HoK cottage at Balboa Park and participating in various HoK events. The attached newsletters cover an overview of YA activities and projects in the 2022-23 school year and messages & photos from senior students graduating this year.

These first issues of the YA newsletter have been made possible by the YA newsletter team, consisting of Ellie Kim, Sun Lee, Ticket (Yuri) Lee, and Yenna Park, all 9th graders, who have worked tirelessly under the supervision of Shiae Park (Yenna’s mom) to bring you these first issues.

We hope you enjoy reading the newsletters and gain a deeper understanding of our ongoing efforts. HoK YA will continue working diligently to fulfill HoK’s mission in the coming school year. Thank you so much for your support for the HoK!

Junior Young Ambassador

청소년 봉사자 (Junior Young Ambassador)

Junior Young Ambassador의 주된 활동은 cottage hosting을 통해 토요일과 일요일에 오픈하는 House of Korea를 찾아온 방문객들에게 한국의 문화, 역사, 언어 등을 소개하고 한국을 홍보하는 것입니다. 

그 외에 House of Korea에서 주최하는 다양한 행사 (Lawn Program Day, 독도 골든벨 퀴즈대회, Korea Day, International Christmas Festival, K-Pop Dance & Vocal Workshop, 작가와 함께 하는 북사인회 등) 에 참여하여 한국을 배우며 알리는 청소년 한국대사의 역할을 하게 됩니다.

Junior YA Application

  • 모집대상 & 모집정원 : 8학년 (15명 이하)
  • 모집기간 : 올해 7월부터 내년 6월까지 일년 상시 모집하지만 정원이 마감되는 경우 신청서 접수 순서대로 대기자 명단에 등록됩니다. 

** 공석 발생시 대기자는 대기 순서에 따라 Junior Young Ambassador로 등록됩니다. 대기 명단은 내년도 6월 30일까지만 유효하며, 그 이후에는 폐기됩니다. Junior Young Ambassador로 등록된 후 4개월 동안 활동이 없으면, Junior Young Ambassador로서 활동 의사가 없는 것으로 간주하여 이메일 통보 후 Junior Young Ambassador 명단에서 제외합니다. 

  • 혜택 
      1. House of Korea에서 운영하는 Young Ambassador (YA, 9-12 학년) 프로그램에 7월에 신청할 경우, Junior Young Ambassador로 6월까지 봉사한 시간순으로 우선권을 받을 수 있습니다. YA 프로그램 신청여부와는 별개로 누적된 봉사 시간은 없어지지 않습니다. 

** YA Application은 9학년으로 올라가는 학생에 한 해 받으며, 다른 학년들은 YA에 TO가 있을 시에만 YA로 가입할 의사가 있는지 개별 연락드립니다.

    2. House of Korea에서 봉사인증서를 발급해주며, 자격조건이 된다면 3rd party를 통해 대통령봉사상을 신청하여 받을 수 있습니다.  

  • 필요요건 : Junior Young Ambassador로 등록되었다는 컨펌 이메일을 받으시면, 봉사 시작 전에  House of Korea의 가족회원으로 먼저 등록을 하셔야 합니다. HOK Annual Family Membership $40은 House of Korea로 도네이션 됩니다.
